DE TIJD VAN HET EINDE (30) - Mattheüs 24:1-42

In episode 30 of the 40-part YouTube series on the book of Daniel, we join the disciples who—as we read in Matthew 24:3—are alone with Jesus on the Mount of Olives. On the way, Jesus had told them about the impending destruction of the temple. This prompted the disciples to ask Him when that would happen and what the sign would be of Jesus' (second) coming and the end of the world. In the extended response that follows, Jesus tells us about what will happen in the time of the end—and specifically during the seventieth week prophesied by Daniel. In His teaching, Jesus also explicitly refers to the prophet Daniel. This alone is a compelling argument against the view of many liberal theologians, who claim that Daniel did not actually exist or that the book was not written by him. Many Bible readers believe that Jesus makes it clear in this passage that the rapture of the church—the subject of the previous installment—will only occur at the end of the Great Tribulation. Reference is often made to Matthew 24:40-41, where we read about two people, one of whom is taken and the other is left behind. The question, however, is whether this actually refers to the rapture of the church. In Matthew 24, Jesus isn't speaking about the church, but about Israel. But if so, what are these verses actually about? For discussion questions, the presentation, or to subscribe to the newsletter, visit: https://detijdvanheteinde.nl/de-tijd-...
