Do you have chickens or plan to get chickens, ducks, or turkeys someday? Then you should also consider slaughtering them. Because about 50% of young are males. And they generally don't get along well with each other once they reach sexual maturity. Roosters, drakes, or turkeys can also be given to friends who need fresh blood in their coop. However, you can usually only get rid of one or two birds, as demand is small. Therefore, you have to consider whether and how to fatten and slaughter the males. During my last breeding in October 2021 with 21 chicks (see    • Hühner für die Selbstversorgung (Doku) / M...  ), I had 10 roosters, which I have "fattened" so far. Of course, I didn't keep them in cramped conditions and stuff them with concentrated feed. They were allowed to live normally with the other chickens in the coop and in the run and received the same organic feed as the other chickens. Now, about three months later, the time has come – I'm taking the roosters to a mobile butcher who does this full-time and has a large plucking machine. The 10 roosters were slaughtered, plucked, and gutted in about 15 minutes. At home, I vacuum seal the chickens and freeze them in the freezer at -18 degrees.
