Without needing an official title, Morgan became a feared figure within prison gangs, organized crime, and the California prison system. At 16, he committed a murder that marked the beginning of a life spent almost entirely in prison, surrounded by violence and secrets. Later, he lost a leg during a bank robbery, returned to prison, and used his prosthetic leg as a criminal tool: inside it, he hid hacksaw blades and a lock pick to escape from the Los Angeles County Jail along with eleven other men.
