Silver Diamine Fluoride in Canada: Utilization Trends among First Nations and Inuit populations

Speakers, Dr. Robert Schroth and Muhammad Abdullah review national Canadian data relating to dental claims for silver diamine fluoride (SDF) to the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program for children. They also review national Canadian data relating to dental claims for SDF to the NIHB program for adults. Lastly, they share the recent updates to SDF Clinical Guidelines to manage cavitated caries lesions. Dr. Schroth is a co-lead for Healthy Smile Happy Child and a professor and clinician scientist in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. He is the CIHR Applied Public Health Chair and the Provincial Medical Representative in Pediatric Dentistry with Shared Health Inc. His research focuses on early childhood oral health and the epidemiology of Early Childhood Caries (ECC) in at-risk populations. Muhammad Abdullah is entering his 4th year of dental school at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, University of Manitoba. He has been with the Dr. Robert Schroth lab for the past 4 years.
