In it, the father of the atomic bomb, Robert Oppenheimer, famously quoted from the Bhagavad Gita, saying “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” Conditions in Viet Nam in 1965: Even before the United States entered the war, there had long been great troubles in the area. In 1964, the Gulf of Tonkin resolution was passed by the US congress, allowing for troops to be drafted and sent into battle.
