SERAMBINEWS.COM - The Iranian government has confirmed that inspectors from the United Nations (UN) nuclear watchdog will not be granted permission to inspect nuclear sites previously damaged by attacks during the conflict with Israel and the United States. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated that no meeting with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has taken place. This includes plans to inspect damaged facilities. Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance stated earlier on Monday (June 22, 2026) that Iran would allow the return of UN nuclear inspectors. He called this an important step towards the denuclearization process. Vance even described the policy as a major milestone and the first step in Iran's permanent denuclearization. The statement came after talks between the conflicting parties in Switzerland mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. The Iranian government previously suspended some cooperation with the IAEA under a law passed by parliament in July of last year. This was in protest of the agency's perceived failure to condemn the attacks by the United States and Israel. However, in September, Iran agreed to resume cooperation within a new framework.
