Let’s make this super stylish side handle hand bag.

G'day Sew & Sews and welcome to our channel. This week Lucy Purr and I have something a little bit different for us to make together. It looks a little fancy but this side handle little tote bag is really simple to make. It's beginner level but you more experienced peeps will love how easily and quickly you'll be able to put this one together. Even better there's no pattern pieces to download, it's all rectangles. I used light fusible fleece for my exterior pieces interfacing and a light iron on interfacing for my lining pieces. I used a piece of decovil heavy for the base. If you don't have any just use the stiffest interfacing you have avalible. I used a vinyl for the exterior, but it would look fabuous made out of a cotton woven also, and a cotton woven for the lining pieces. If you're on a domestic machine, I'll include measurements to cut the interfacing so it's out of your seam allowances. Finished dimensions; 15 1/2 wide, 8 1/2 high and 5 deep. Main Panel Pieces: 16 1/4 inches wide x 9 1/2 inches high. Cut 2 from your exterior fabric of choice and 2 lining pieces. Cut 2 light iron on interfacing for your lining. Cut 2 light fusible fleece 15 1/2 x 8 3/4 to keep out of your seams for the exterior pieces. Base: 9 1/2 inches wide x 6 inches high. Cut 1 from your exterior piece and 1 lining. Cut 1 light iron on interfaing for the lining. Cut one piece of decovil heavy (or other stiff interfacing) at 8 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches for the exterior interfacing. Zipper Pocket: 9 inches wide x 14 inches high. Cut 1 from your lining fabric and 1 light iron on interfacing. (If you wanted to do a zipper pocket on each side for extra storage that would work.) Connector Tabs: 5 x 5 inches. Cut 2 exterior fabric. Cut 2 light fusible fleece at 2 x 3 inches. Iron on your fusible fleece 1 1/2 inches from the sides and 1 inch from other end so it is placed in the centre of your 5 x 5 exterior pieces. Hardware: 4 purse feet 1 magnetic clasp (I used a 1/2 inch one) Handles: 2 1/2 inches wide minimum, (that's the width of our connectors) up to 3 1/2 inches. Zipper tape: 8 1/2 inches long and a number 5 zipper head.
