Hiking (and Camping) with My Daughter: Days 2 & 3

We enjoyed a leisurely day of camping the second day...until my phone (ie CAMERA) battery died. My ever protective daughter insisted she make the arduous climb out of the canyon alone to retrieve another battery charger from our car. Meanwhile, back at camp, lacking any pen or paper to let her know of my own change of plans (and zero cell signal), I scratched her a note in the dirt in front of her tent. Seeing that wasn't very obvious, I laboriously rewrote my note by lining up small stones to form each letter. Then I struck out down to the bottom of the deep canyon to gather/filter the water we would need for the next 24 hours. Turns out my returning daughter stepped on my note, scattering the carefully placed stones, as she opened her tent to toss in the battery charger, never even seeing my careful note "River 16:20", alerting her I'd left camp for the river at 4:20pm. Note not needed. She instantly assumed I'd headed out to replenish our water and bopped on down the trail to join me! The third morning we broke camp after having a delicious hot breakfast of curried rice to fuel our hike back up and out of the canyon. The trip home included our traditional stop at JB's Trading Post to browse the gear we aspire to someday have(!) and a refreshing meal of Japanese soul food! Rayna's cat (Strider)--and her older brother and dad(!)--were happy to see her as she paused at our house a few hours before she and Strider continued on a few hours further down the road to their own house.
