Virgil Thomson (Concerto for Cello and Orchestra)

This work was completed in 1950. The outer fast movements are lively expressions of the American spirit. However, it is the slow second movement that seems to be most memorable with its odd but attractive harmonic layout. It's almost hard to believe this is Virgil Thomson.
