According to data released by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), the development technology project for high-output reciprocating engines for aviation with a critical altitude of 20 kft is being conducted jointly by industry, academia, and research institutes from 2021 to 2026, with a confirmed budget of 53.22 billion KRW. Data confirms that multiple engine localization projects are being pursued in parallel, including the development of complete turbofan engines for unmanned aerial vehicles (2019–2027, 66.4 billion KRW). It is known that the plan is to tune a 200-horsepower reciprocating engine based on the 2.2-liter diesel engine used in the Carnival and Palisade for use in corps-level and suicide drones.
