“Life: A Portrayal of Bimal Bhowmik” is a biographical approach to the life and being of Shri Bimal Bhowmik, an acclaimed National Award winner film director. His different incarnations, as a film director, a film critic, an organiser, a poet, a political enthusiast, a chess-player and last but not the least as a purely family man and an honest human being, comes to the surface through various interviews of him and his acquaintances with a Kolkata based author. In the first half, extensive interviews with the octogenarian, his wife and his co-workers provide an insight to the life of Shri Bhowmik as it unfurled from his childhood days in Bangladesh, Maldah and eventually in Kolkata. Upon his death, the author’s travels across Maldah and Kolkata brings him across a wide range of film and theatre personalities, music composers, poets, directors and cinematographers like Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee, Rudraprasad Sengupta, Ramananda Sengupta, Tarun Sanyal and others as well as his close and extended family members who reminisced about Sri Bimal, both as a human being and as an artist. Several individual experiences and moments spend with Shri Bhowmik, as narrated by them, creates a carefully laid montage into his life which is ultimately destined to be featured as a book. Thus, this two hour long narrative draws carefully all the colours of Shri Bimal Bhowmik set in the canvas of his mortal life and beyond, pulsating incessantly through his works and visions!
