Crushing Stage Fright

Stage fright is a constant problem for new comedians. Here is a great tip on how to crush stage fright for good. The problem with trying to overcome stage fright is that new comedians go about it the entirely wrong way. In fact, it doesn't simple not help overcome the fear... it actually makes the fear even worse. Over-rehearsing for a show can place more pressure on a comedian to "get it just perfect" while on stage. Instead, concentrate on the story you want to tell the audience. You've been telling stories your whole life... and you're pretty good at it. Why is it that you can tell a story to a friend without rehearsing it and yet tell the story to near perfection... but when you try to be perfect in your performance of a joke it feels awkward or you get afraid. Here's a great tip: never try to memorize every word of your set. Only memorize which topics or stories you want to talk about on stage. That will drastically decrease the stage fright.
