Why We Live in Seminyak #balilife

I get asked this all the time: "Debbie, why did you choose to live in Seminyak? Of all the places in Bali, why there?" So I made a video to answer it. In this video, I'm sharing why Seminyak works for me and my 82-year-old mom. Not because it's perfect. Not because it's for everyone. But because after seven years, it's home. The short version: Seminyak has a yin and yang. It's busy. It's touristy. There's traffic and higher prices and construction everywhere. But there's also a strong community. Easy access to everything we need. Sidewalks that let Mom walk. A rhythm that keeps us both going. I've been coming here since 2001. And I keep coming back. Not because it's the "authentic Bali" of green mountains and rice fields. It's not. Seminyak is beach town Bali. City Bali. Convenience Bali. And for us? That's exactly what we need. What Seminyak gives us: ✅ Mobility for Mom – She can walk. She can stay active. At 82, that's everything. ✅ Convenience – Groceries, markets, doctors, health food stores. Everything is 10 minutes away. ✅ Community – Shopkeepers who know us. Cafés that know our order. A nod, a smile, a "how are you?" ✅ Energy – It keeps me moving. There's always somewhere to go, something to do, someone to see. ✅ Home – After 24 years of coming here, it just feels like home. Who is this video for? Anyone who's ever wondered why someone would choose to live in a busy, touristy area of Bali. Anyone who's felt judged for where they live. Anyone who's learned that "perfect" isn't the goal—"works for us" is.
