Method 1: Sewing the elastic without a waistband This is ideal for sports pants, shorts, or skirts where the waistband is part of the garment. Measure the elastic to fit yourself and connect it into a circle. To make the seam neat, wrap the joint with a small piece of tape and sew it. Align the elastic with the upper edge of the garment, distribute it evenly, and secure it with a stitch down the center of the elastic. Then make two folds of the fabric so that the elastic is inside, and sew another line. As a result, the elastic is securely fixed and won’t twist while wearing. Method 2: Waistband with sewn-in elastic. If the garment has a separate waistband, you can sew the elastic directly into it. Fold the waistband in half with the right side facing inward. Insert the elastic, connected into a ring, inside. Slightly overlap the edges of the elastic. Roll it up and sew the waistband along the seam line, turn it inside out — and it’s done: the elastic is already inside the seam. Now just sew a line under the elastic. Method 3: Waistband with a closed seam. A beautiful and neat option when you want all the edges to be hidden. Cut the waistband to the desired width, fold it with the right side facing out, and attach it to the garment on the front side. Fold the free edge of the garment twice, covering the edge of the waistband, and sew a line. Insert the elastic into the formed "pocket," distribute it evenly, and secure it on the sides with vertical stitches. A few helpful tips: For wide elastic (from 3 cm), be sure to make vertical seams — at least along the side lines. This is the main secret to prevent it from twisting.
