Farewell and welcome to guests Hello, family! Today I want to tell you how I celebrated my birthday, a party I initially didn't plan to have. After a difficult time in the Dominican Republic, I was feeling down, but Ernesto encouraged me, and I thought, "There's only one life, let's celebrate it." So we opened the doors of our home and decided to share a special evening with friends full of details I love. I wanted everything to have a Mediterranean feel. We started by inviting guests at 9 p.m., to avoid a formal dinner. We opted for "bite food": easy, hassle-free dishes to eat standing up. Ernesto, who is a genius at organizing, chose appetizers that can be heated beforehand so we wouldn't have to spend time in the kitchen when guests arrive. I prefer to set the table, which I love, and take care of the flowers, which are my weakness. Our table is steeped in history. We use tableware from my grandparents, my parents, and pieces Ernesto and I have bought together on our travels. We combine vintage with modern, something that sparks conversation. The centerpiece was a purchase from our first trip to Paris, a special memory from when we were just beginning our journey together. This year marks our 13th anniversary! The food was spectacular, courtesy of our favorite caterer, Casamar. The menu included filet mignon with gorgonzola sauce, goat cheese balls with bacon and fig sauce, mushroom arancini, leek quiche, sesame chicken with mango chutney, vegetable lumpia, mini brioches, and cold roast beef on bruschetta. Each dish had its own sauce, neatly organized so nothing gets lost. We even labeled each tray with the required oven time and temperature. Organization above all! Now, let's talk about flowers. For me, that's the most important thing. We went to Berkeley Flowers in Miami, where I got gorgeous hydrangeas, lilies, tulips, and roses. I learned a trick I want to share: to get the flowers to bloom overnight, use warm water with two drops of bleach and place them in warm shade. Also, if you add a penny to the hydrangeas, they'll last longer. And the red roses at the entrance help absorb negative energies. Floral magic! To create ambiance, we used lots of candles. Dim, intimate, warm lighting. Candles have a history; they've seen many gatherings at our house, and I love how they completely change the atmosphere. Our bar was set up with prosecco, white wine, Pouilly-Fuissé red wine, and glasses for every taste. And the surprise of the night: Lady M's cake, shipped from New York. A vanilla mille crepe that, honestly, is heavenly. Although Ernesto wanted to surprise me, I found out via text message. We still enjoyed it so much! In the end, more than a party, it was a tribute to life, love, memories, and the little details. Thank you for being with me, for celebrating this birthday I almost missed, and for joining me in continuing to make memories. See you next time!
