North Somerset Railway Freight & Parcels Gala (& Railtours) 16-28.1.2026

RTL Discord:   / discord   NSR Discord:   / discord   As is annual tradition, the North Somerset Railway hosted their January gala as the last opportunity to see the 2025 home fleet rotation in action, before overhauls start and finish and repaints get underway. This particular one however had a unique theme, with four of the five stock sets being predominantly freight wagons and/or parcels stock. This was the appearance for GWR 5700 No. 7749 and 4300 No. 5312 before both bowed out for overhaul, with replacements waiting in the wings. Joining them was Ex-SR West Country No. 34094 'Mortehoe' appearing in BR Brunswick Green livery for the last time, and Class 31 No. 31556 and 37 No. 37114 'City of Worcester', the latter making its final appearance in BR Trainload livery. Visiting for the event was BR Standard 9F No. 92134 from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Class 56 No. 56045 from DC Rail Freight, and a mixed set of TTA tank wagons, with the two home fleet ones joined by two from Timeline Rail and twelve from the Dean Forest Railway. In addition, two Timeline Rail charter trains ran the same week, including a private charter for the chairman of the Esthwaite Branch Preservation Society on the Saturday, operated by his own GWR 4073 No. 5045 'Earl of Dudley' from Cardiff to Bristol and return twice, and No. 7007 'Great Western' working the outward leg of a Timeline Rail 'Mendipman' charter from London Euston to the North Somerset Railway the following Wednesday, with 92134 taking it over the line one way and 56045 working the entire return leg. 7007 and 92134 are due to be in action for the line's February Half Term services.
