EPM va Camino al Barrio - Reciclados Industriales de Colombia, Reciclar materiales de construcción

In the Aburrá Valley metropolitan area, 16,000 tons of construction waste are generated every day. Reciclados Industriales de Colombia (RIC), a company within the EPM Ventures program, takes advantage of this waste. Concrete, bricks, masonry, and asphalt remnants are transformed into high-quality granular materials and reused in construction, ensuring their proper disposal and avoiding the extraction of virgin materials. Manuela and Juan Pablo put on their work boots and uniforms to travel to the municipality of Girardota. There, they visit the innovative Reciclados Industriales de Colombia (RIC) plant, a pioneering complex designed to address one of the most critical environmental problems of urban construction projects: the massive accumulation of construction and demolition waste, more commonly known as "rubble." Through a dynamic tour of the plant and expert explanations, we discover an amazing circular economy process in action, capable of transforming up to 1,000 tons of construction and demolition waste (such as concrete, brick, and asphalt) daily into new, high-quality aggregate materials for the city's infrastructure. We'll discuss, from an analytical perspective, the negative environmental impact of poorly managed waste from public and private works projects and understand the ecological value of the circular economy promoted by EPM to mitigate the exploitation of non-renewable natural resources. With humor, hard work, and shovels in hand, the episode demonstrates how EPM significantly reduces the pressure on natural quarries and traditional spoil heaps, turning what would have been waste into raw materials for the future.
