잘못된 경전의 번역의 대표적 사례 [붓다빅퀘스천 53] 고광스님 1강
A lecture by Venerable Go Gwang, author of Breaking the Buddhist Dojang*. This is the first lecture of *Buddha Big Question Episode 53, titled "Representative Examples of Faulty Scripture Translation." Venerable Go Gwang introduces representative examples of scripture translation that we have misunderstood. The first is the term "Nansa" (亂辭). Venerable Go Gwang examines the passage found in the Dao'an chapter of Volume 8 of *Records of the Three Dynasties*: "The four things are: Why do they explain meanings that are correct but resemble disordered words? Why do they explain things in terms of language without any difference? Whether it is one thousand or five hundred, they are altered and do not exist. The four are the loss of the original." The monk translates this statement as follows: "Fourth, the Hogyeong contains Yigi (Notes on Meaning), which is akin to chaotic speech. Because the content was examined in relation to the preceding sermon and the sentences were deemed identical, approximately 1,500 characters were deleted and not preserved; this is the fourth point regarding the loss of the original form." In other words, the phrases Yigi or Yiseol found in the scriptures were deleted because they were akin to chaotic speech. The meaning of Nansa is truly akin to disorderly words, so even if one analyzes and interprets the preceding statements, they cannot be distinguished phrasally. Although they appear to make sense on the surface, they are in reality akin to disorderly discourse, meaning that no matter how closely one analyzes and interprets them, they cannot be distinguished phrasally. The second point concerns the term Yiseol*. While we translate the character *Yi as meaning "correct" or "intentional," the monk points out that when Yiseol is used in the scriptures, it is used to mean "false" or "false." Therefore, it means that the aforementioned "Uigi" or "Uiseol" were deleted without translation because they were considered "Nongseo," and it is argued that this is the only way to properly translate the scriptures. #VenGogwang #Uiseol #Uigi #ScriptureMistranslation #BreakingTheBuddhistCourt #Nongseo #ScriptureTranslation Representative Examples of Faulty Scripture Translations [Buddha Big Question 53] Venerable Gogwang Lecture 1 ◇ Bulkwang Blog (Official): https://blog.naver.com/bulkwanger ◇ Bulkwang Facebook Page: / bulkwang ◇ Subscribe to Bulkwang Newsletter https://page.stibee.com/subscriptions... ◇ Bulkwang Media Instagram: / bkbooks79 ◇ Bulkwang Media Website http://www.bulkwang.co.kr/
