Planting Green Into Cover Crops on Clay Soils in Niagara, Ontario

Follow a "plant green" corn field in the Niagara region of Ontario through the first half of the 2021 growing season. Hear from the farmer, Larry Dyck of Campden Grain, about his planter set-up, past challenges and pointers for success planting green on clay soils. Jake Munroe, Soil Management Specialist (Field Crops) with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs provides his in-field observations on crop establishment, cover crop control and early-season growth over a series of visits. Note: the field profiled is mapped as a clay loam, but the farmer manages heavy clay soils using the same methods. Video shooting and editing by Holly Ivany.
