In Spain, temperatures are expected to reach up to 42 degrees Celsius, prompting the government to issue an early warning to the public. This situation raises the question of whether the extreme weather phenomenon occurring in Europe could also impact Indonesia. According to Sonni Setiawan, a lecturer in the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, IPB University, the global climate system is indeed interconnected through a teleconnection mechanism. However, the impact of the European heat wave on Indonesia is not direct. Indonesia, in fact, has the potential to experience an increase in extreme temperatures due to local factors, such as changes in land use and the urban heat island phenomenon.
