📢‼️Note: Angiotensin II appears to have a more potent vasoconstrictor effect on the efferent arterioles, but in this video we focus only on the vasoconstrictor effect on the afferent arterioles. But for now, just to clarify possible doubts, angiotensin II does indeed seem to have a more potent vasoconstrictor effect on the efferent arterioles when blood volume is slightly reduced, such as in dehydration or at the beginning of a hypovolemic episode, which helps maintain the effective glomerular filtration pressure. However, when blood volume is very reduced, as in hypovolemic shock, angiotensin II may have vasoconstrictor effects on both efferent and afferent arterioles. This decreases renal blood flow, decreasing GFR and reducing renal excretion. In addition, decreased renal blood flow helps redirect blood flow to vital organs, such as the brain.
