More than just a sick note: What good Occupational Heath actually looks like

There's a really common frustration in HR around occupational health reports that seem to just reflect back whatever the employee said, with a clinical-sounding veneer on top. In this episode of In Conversation with Evolving HR, I'm joined by Harry Cramer, founder of Smart Clinic — an occupational health provider he set up after years of watching the industry get it wrong. We talk about what makes genuinely independent occupational health so rare, how OH providers end up parroting what employees want rather than offering clinical opinion and why that's a problem for everyone involved — including the employees. Harry also shares how Smart Clinic does things differently, from limiting caseloads so clinicians can actually do their jobs properly, to the way they manage expectations before anyone sets foot in a consultation. We also get into some of the more complex cases — behavioural issues that turns out to be undiagnosed health issues, addiction, neurodiversity and performance management — and why having the right OH support in those moments can genuinely change outcomes for both the employer and the employee. Whether you're well versed in OH or have always been a bit fuzzy on what it's actually for, this is a great conversation.
