Papst Leo XIV. erhält Liberty Medal aus den USA

"E pluribus unum – out of many, one." Pope Leo XIV received the Liberty Medal from the National Constitution Center and recalled the founding ideals of the United States. At the public ceremony in Philadelphia, on the eve of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the American pope addressed the audience via video link from the Vatican. In his acceptance speech, Leo XIV spoke about the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. For him, these rights are grounded in a dignity "that precedes the founding of every state and whose preservation constitutes its very purpose." The moral greatness of a nation is revealed by whether it supports, protects, and respects the lives of all, especially "the most vulnerable and those whose worth is questioned." The Liberty Medal was established in 1988 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. It honors individuals and organizations that champion freedom and human dignity.
