Domestic Violence Survivors Advice to Healthcare Providers: Listening to Your Patient (2 of 4)
The prevalence of domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, in the US is staggering; annually, more than 10 million people are abused by an intimate partner and it is estimated that over 15.5 million children are exposed annually to adult domestic violence at home. Healthcare settings provide vital opportunities for domestic violence survivors to encounter information about services and receive help. In this video series from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Lutheran Settlement House, three domestic violence survivors share their experiences and what healthcare providers should know about identifying and supporting victims of domestic violence. PART 2 OF 4: Listening to Your Patient Hear first-hand accounts of what resonates with patients – and what doesn’t – following a domestic violence disclosure in a healthcare setting. Survivors share that they want healthcare providers to show them kindness, care, and respect after making a domestic violence situation known.
