The physical accessibility of forests influences timber harvesting and the preservation of sensitive areas. Difficult to assess, as it depends on multiple factors such as access, slope, and obstacles, it can now be mapped on a large scale thanks to the open-source tool Sylvaccess and open data from the French National Geographic Institute (IGN). The result: a detailed view of the accessibility of forests across France, available as freely accessible maps.
