Charles Villa a rencontré un ex enfant soldat

In 2018, for Brut, @CharlesVilla filmed Congolese families risking their lives crossing Lake Albert to seek refuge in Uganda. They were fleeing violence from armed groups in their country, particularly those of Codeco, a militia responsible for numerous atrocities and massacres of civilians for over 20 years in the Ituri region, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. After collecting these testimonies, he decided to travel a few years later to the neighboring Kivu region to document and try to understand this violence by armed groups. There, he interviewed the leader of the armed group, and he also encountered child soldiers. This year, Charles Villa returned to Ituri, to the town of Bunia, to revisit the issue of child soldiers, which affects thousands of children in the DRC. Six years later, he also revealed the conditions still facing the Congolese people who fled the violence in 2018. Tens of thousands of them have never been able to return home and have been living in displacement camps ever since. There, he met Jean-Pierre, now a schoolteacher, who experienced hell after being forcibly recruited into an armed group at a young age. Twenty years later, he agreed to tell his story. 👉 To learn more about UNICEF's work for child soldiers: https://lp.unicef.fr/enfants-soldats-... 🙏 To make a donation to support child soldier reintegration efforts in the DRC: https://don.unicef.fr/?cid=508 🔔 To make sure you don't miss any Brut videos, don't hesitate to subscribe and activate the bell:    / @brutfr
