Netanyahu attends Hanukkah ceremony in Rome with Letta

(1 Dec 2013) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta attended a Hanukkah ceremony at Rome's Synagogue on Sunday. During the ceremony both men spoke about the recent the American-led nuclear deal with Iran. Netanyahu has recently called the deal a "historic mistake" and declared Israel not bound by the agreement. Netanyahu believes Iran is determined to produce a nuclear bomb and offering it relief from sanctions at this time amounts to appeasement. Iran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. During his speech in Rome, Netanyahu again said that Iran "is looking for atomic bombs," which he said was "a threat not only for Israel, but also for Italy and Europe." Italian Prime Minister Letta said there was "a strong commitment of the whole international community to solve the conflict with Iran and to archive the complete de-nuclearisation of the country." After the speech, Netanyahu lit one candle of a Hanukkah Menorah - a special nine-branched candle holder lit during the Hanukkah holiday. Netanyahu is on a visit to Italy, which will include a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Monday.
