1466 Returns to Steam - Official Launch Event at Didcot Railway Centre 23/08/25

The August Bank Holday saw the Didcot Railway Centre celebratethe return of one of their engines, 14xx class 1466 following an extensive six and a half year overhaul. Before entering the Railway Centre we see 35028 Clan Line getting away from Didcot Parkway after a passenger stop hauling the Worcester Steam Express. The Merchant Navy would go on to Gloucester with a diesel taking the tour to journeys end at Worcester. Meanwhile, back at the Railway Centre we see 1450 running on the demonstration line. The 1466 event was accompanied by two visiting steam locos; 1450 on loan from the Severn Valley Railway and SECR O1 Class No 65 visiting from the Bluebell Railway. 1466 started its day on shed before going to be watered and coaled, the loco then moved to the turntable for speeches from the GWS and ribbon across the turntable to mark the end of the official launch. After the O1 class' turns on the main demonstration line in the afternoon, the 14xx took charge with an autocoach hauling its first revenue earning train in over 6 years! Thanks for watching.
