Built in 1898 by the wealthy landowner Rudolf Schulz. the large estate would remain in is family until the end of World War II. The Soviets expelled the family and seized the property. It was turned into a home for war orphans, until the east German state turned it into a children's home named "Kinderheim Martin Schwantes". The children's home operated until 1995 when it was closed down due to a lack of funds for much needed renovation work. The Gutshaus was sold off to several investors between 1995 and 2007, each who failed to renovated the building.
