Jean Giono, entretien avec Louis Pauwels (1959)

Jean Giono, a great lover of his native South of France and his writing career, was interviewed in 1959 by journalist Louis Pauwels at his home in Manosque, in his study. The writer spoke about his mother and father, recounted his beginnings as a writer, "the greatest pleasure of his life." Deeply rooted in Manosque, he disliked the South and its sun, preferring Parisian autumns, and had found the country where he would like to live: Scotland. He gave his opinion on the "New Wave," which he felt "reveled in ugliness," and answered Louis Pauwels' questions.
