From hidden swimming spots and breathtaking mountain trails to an unforgettable sunrise hike and the long push to the finish line, this is the perfect ending to an epic adventure. Day 4 Waking up at Pico das Pedras, I set off in search of a secluded swimming spot before hiking one of Madeira's most beautiful trails – PR11 Vereda dos Balcões. This incredible route winds through the Laurisilva Forest, with stunning viewpoints overlooking Madeira's dramatic mountains and valleys. After the hike, I stop for some delicious local food and a well-earned Madeira beer before making my way to camp. As the sun sets, I pitch my tent, cook a dehydrated meal, enjoy a glass of traditional Poncha, and relax with a film under the stars. Day 5 The final day begins at 5:00am beneath one of the clearest night skies I've ever seen. The stars are absolutely unreal as I hike through the darkness, reaching the perfect viewpoint just in time for an unforgettable sunrise over Madeira's mountains. From there, it's a steep 1,000m descent down to the coast before tackling the final 25km to the finish line in Machico, completing an unforgettable 100km solo journey across the island. This hike had everything: mountain ridges, lush forests, hidden swimming spots, local food and drink, wild camping, unforgettable sunrises, and some of the best hiking trails in Europe. Madeira has completely blown me away, and this is an adventure I'll never forget.
