They were known for their skill in launching attacks on merchant ships passing through these waters. Furthermore, Belakang Padang Island itself served as one of the pirates' bases of operation. Although their origins are unknown, these pirates operated around Belakang Padang Island, leading many to refer to them as the Belakang Padang Pirates. Over time, these pirates were eventually eradicated by security forces. However, this dark history remains a part of Belakang Padang Island's history, adding to its tourist appeal.
