Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the temple is famous for its hot springs, particularly Surya Kund, and a challenging trekking path. The shrine is accessible from May to October, with trekking starting from Janki Chatti. The Temple: The main temple, housing a black marble idol of Goddess Yamuna, was built by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur and later restored by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. Location: Situated in the Garhwal Himalayas near the Champasar Glacier, the actual source is at 4,421 meters, but the temple is located at a more accessible point. Hot Springs (Kunds): Surya Kund and Gouri Kund are natural, boiling-hot springs near the temple where devotees prepare rice and potatoes as offerings. Trek Details: The trek to the temple is a steep, moderate 3 km walk from Janki Chatti, often taken via ponies or palanquins. Best Time to Visit: The temple opens during Akshay Tritiya (April/May) and closes on Yama Dwitiya (October/November), with the best weather before the monsoons or after September.
