Digital technologies shape the everyday lives of older people on many levels today – from smartphones and social media to digital hearing aids and AI-supported applications that are increasingly permeating more and more areas of life. This brings a central question to the forefront: What does this development mean for cognitive health in old age? In this webinar, Dr. Stefan T. Kamin approaches this question from a gerontopsychological perspective. As a Senior Scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) and Deputy Head of the Human Centered Innovation Group, he has been researching at the intersection of aging research, data science, and AI for many years. Using selected highlights from his own research, he discusses the potential that digital technologies, and in particular current AI applications, offer for cognitive health in old age and under what conditions they promote cognitive activity rather than replacing it.
