The Church That Floated to a New Home
A church in Hyde County has been inspiring visitors for nearly 150 years with a story unlike any other in North Carolina. According to local history, the original Providence Methodist Church building floated nearly a half-mile during a storm in 1876 before coming to rest on the very property church members had originally hoped to purchase. In this Beyond the Headlines special, we explore the history behind the church, hear from local historians who have preserved the story for decades, and learn why many believe it remains one of Eastern North Carolina's most remarkable landmarks. #SwanQuarter #HydeCounty #NorthCarolina #History #ProvidenceChurch #BeyondTheHeadlines #AmazingAmerica250 #EasternNC #WCTI _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WCTI News 12 on Facebook: / wcti12 WCTI News 12 on Twitter: / wcti12 Subscribe to WCTI News 12 on YouTube: / @wcti Eastern Carolina Daily News Playlist: • WCTI News 12 - Eastern Carolina Daily News For more information, visit https://wcti12.com/ Have a news tip?
