As duas “fogueiras” de São Pedro
Just like Saint Peter, every Pope is placed before two bonfires: the bonfire in the courtyard of the High Priest, where Peter's successor is tempted to deny Christ and submit the faith to the errors of the modern world; and the bonfire made by the resurrected Christ on the shore of the Sea of Tiberias, where Our Lord asked Peter three times if he truly loved Him. We too are daily called to choose whether we will warm ourselves by the bonfire of denial or by the bonfire of love. This sermon was given by Father Paulo Ricardo on June 28, 2026, during Mass at the Cristo Rei Parish in Várzea Grande (MT).
