What is a flashback? What does a flashback consist of? A flashback is a literary technique in which the protagonist or another character we see on screen recounts a past experience or memory. This retelling forms the story of the film—something that has already happened, but we see it from the perspective of the character who lived it. Films like Forrest Gump, Amadeus, Edward Scissorhands, Chaplin, Titanic, among others, used this technique. Many people confuse it with a flashback, but they are not the same.
