JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Cak Lontong, also known as Lies Hartono, told Rosianna Silalahi about a time when he was still starting his career as a comedian in Jakarta. At that time, video calling technology wasn't yet widespread, so he could still lie to his wife. Cak Lontong admitted to lying and saying he was in a meeting with the creative team at a television station. In fact, he was unemployed and had yet to find a job. "I was once (in a period) when I didn't know what I was going to eat tomorrow. And my wife didn't know. When I made that decision and had my wife's support, it was my responsibility. I never wanted to make my wife and children suffer (the hardship). They only found out after everything had improved," he said. There's a story about when Cak Lontong was still starting his career and his savings were gone. Cak Lontong collected small change and exchanged it at food stalls to buy daily food and survive. "My decision was to buy the sweetest food and drinks for the day, so I'd have energy. I had to save money. If I went out looking for work, I'd use up the rest of my money, and I wouldn't necessarily get a job. So, how would I survive on this money?" he said.
