My Alfa Giulia Super, the most fun car I've ever driven
My 1972 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super is finally finished! We took it for a hoon on the Black Mountain Pass in Wales for an in-depth review to show you why it's the most fun car I have ever driven! After two years of working on the car, we wanted to finally find out what this angry little Italian sports-saloon is like to drive and it didn't disappoint! We hope you get a sense of what it's like to hustle the little Giulia down a great road like this, while I talk you through all you need to know about driving and owning this awesome classic drivers car. It really is an addictive machine, an antidote to a lot of the lifeless cars on sale today - with choice tweaks, such as Alfaholics springs and dampers, 15" Alfaholics GTA wheels and open air filters, we have ended up with a car that I simply can't stop driving, and one that sounds great! This Giulia is part of Alfa's 105 series of cars (coming in Coupe, Spider and Saloon forms) that stretched between 1962 and 1978, with a 5-speed manual 'box and rear-wheel-drive using Alfa's famous twin-cam 'Nord' engine. In this 1300 iteration it develops 90bhp (as verified on the dyno!) using twin Dell'Orto carburettors. The car weighs around 1000kg at the kerb and was the first ever production car designed in a wind tunnel, believe it or not! The Giulia came with servo assisted disc brakes and coil springs all round from factory, and was the car of choice for the Italian police in period! This 'Super' variant gained inner headlamps and twin carburettors among other tweaks - they're often found racing in classic touring car series today!
