SVR Spring Steam Gala 2026 - 18th April 2026 (Part 1)

The Spring Steam Gala at the Severn Valley Railway celebrated both large and small, as we had three visiting engines: Port of Par Bagnall 0-4-0ST 'Judy', visiting from the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, L&YR Class 21 0-4-0ST 'Pug' no. 11243 and BR Standard Class 8 4-6-2 no. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' which was making her (or is it his?) first visit to a heritage railway since its latest overhaul. The home fleet was represented by another seven locomotives, and GWR 5101 Class 'Large Prairie' no. 4150 was meant to make its long awaited debut after restoration, but alas it wasn't completed in time. I only did the one day this year, Saturday 18th April, and it wasn't without incident as GWR 14xx Class 'Autotank' no. 1450 was failed after her first run in the morning with a broken spring. This meant that Hagley Hall was put on to cover her duties and BR Class 17 diesel locomotive no. D8568 was put on Thunderbird duty to take over Hagley Hall's trains. That would throw the timetable out of whack somewhat. All in all though, a great day. And this video is part one, which takes in some early morning shuttling between Kidderminster and Bewdley, featuring what was meant to be a triple header with 1450, 'Pug' and 'Judy' but because of issues coupling the Pug to the other locomotives, became a double header with the Pug tailing. Judy and Pug would then top and tail between Kidderminster and Bewdley for the rest of the day. This was also a farewell event for GWR 78xx Class no. 7802 'Bradley Manor', who's off to the West Somerset Railway for the summer.
