Walk in Paris from Marais to Chatelet - Les Halles

For this walk we decided to go from the Marais area in Paris to the Chatelet - Les Halles. It's a relatively short walk, but you can see a lot of places, and also try the famous falafels on your way (spoiler - they are indeed as good as the queues suggest, but if you plan ahead and stop by earlier/later/during the work week, you can probably beat the crowds!). Let's go! 0:01 Welcome back!  Our walk today is from Le Marais to Les Halles. 0:09 Le Marais is known as an aristocratic district of Paris, and it's easy to see why. 0:15 We are going inside St Paul St Lois church. It was opened in 17th century, and the first mass was led by Cardinal Richelieu! 0:30 During the French revolution, the church was transformed into a "Cult of Reason" 1:30 As you can see, we shot this video at around Christmas time🙂 2:00 Crossing Rue de Rivoli. It was built at the time of Napoleon Bonaparte, and is now the commercial and cultural heart of Paris, connecting Champs-Élysées with Bastille. 2:50 Le Marais  mostly survived Haussmann transformations of 19th century, and so offers a glimpse of how older Paris used to look like. 3:10 Rue de Rosiers is inside a Jewish quarter of Paris. It has some very popular popular falafel places, and good bakeries. 4:00 As you can see, people are prepared to wait in long queues for this food. 5:20 Comme a Lisbonne is our favorite place for Portuguese  pastries in Paris. 6:30 Place du Marche St Catherine is a cute square. Feels very Parisian! 7:10 This is Jarente fountain, built in 18th century. It was mostly used as a water source by the local sellers of fish. 7: 25 We are now entering Place de Vosges- the oldest planned square of Paris. It was built in early 17th century. At the time, it was one of the most fashionable areas of Paris. 8:35 It feels very royal, doesn't it? In fact, this was once its name: Royal Square. 9:10 Lets take a walk along its famous galleries! 13:05: History Museum of Paris Carnavalet- unfortunately currently closed. 13:30 Public library of Paris. 13.50: Still in Marais, in one of its semi-private residential areas. 15:00 This is central Paris, and yet it feels very serene! 15:22 We have now exited Le Marais area, and now entering the square in front of Hotel de Ville- Paris city hall. 15:40 Originally built in 16-17 century, it was burned at the time of the Paris Commune, and then rebuilt. 15:45 This year, there was a small Christmas market here. 16:00 we are now approaching Tour St Jacques. 16:10 It is part of the UNESCO-protected Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. 16:20 It was once part of a church, which was demolished during the French revolution. 18:20 Now moving into Chatelet- Les Halles area 18:30 St Merri Church. Its bell is the oldest in Paris- it was cast in 1331! 19:40 Stravinsky fountain is not working now. Hopefully it will in the summer! 20:52. George Pompidou centre. There are now talks  it might soon be closed for repairs for at least 4 years... 21:37 Place Edmond Michelet. 22:45 Fountain of the Innocents- the oldest monumental fountain of Paris.
