Making A Speargun From Scratch! Part 2: Barrel, Trigger & Roller Assembly
This is the second part to my Wooden 90cm Roller Speargun build. In this video I will be carving the barrel, Trigger mechanism housing and the roller assembly! This chapter isn't without it's struggles as I make a fair few mistakes, but luckily nothing that couldn't be fixed! To start this build off, I needed to make an extension for the blank as it was too short, if I wanted a 90cm Barrel, it needed to be longer. So I made a smaller second blank and made a half lap join to connect the two ends. Next, it was time to make to barrel, I opted to use my CNC machine to square off the blank, before attempting to cut the track. It was going fine until I decided to have a final pass off camera. I then messed it up, which forced me to use a dovetail bit to create an epoxy poured track. I mixed a cosmic style epoxy and poured away - Success! Once the epoxy had hardened, I planed away the excess and flattened the top face before moving onto carving the trigger mechanism recess. This time I used a router, which was much better. Although, I did cut away a small chunk of the barrel which I had to rectify. Once the trigger mech recess was done, I finally had to create the roller assy mechanism. Using the Delrin Rollers, I marked the position of the holes and used the drill press and Forstner bits to cut this. Results were pretty inaccurate and messy, which I used the Dremel to clean up. Next I needed to drill the axis pin hole for the rollers. I decided to cut to hole from either side and for it to meet in the centre - this did not go to plan, thanks to my rubbish vice not being flat! So now the holes were not aligned, I needed to improvise. I ended up drilling a larger hole - in one go this time, and 3d printing some pin sleeves. This turned out perfectly and I could finish and assemble the roller assembly! Next time, I'll be doing all of the shaping and more! 00:00 - 00:28 - Intro 00:28 - 03:50 - Blank Extension 03:50 - 07:57 - Barrel 07:57 - 10:42 - Trigger Mech 10:42 - 15:08 - Roller Assy 15:08 - 15:35 - Close
