Polish song 1964: Alina Janowska - Mała kobietko, czy wiesz? (Do You Know, Nice Little Woman?)
Alina Janowska & Zespół Jerzego Abratowskiego – Mała kobietko (Czy wiesz...?) [Do You Know, Little Nice Woman...?] Slow-fox z f-mu „Csibi” (from the film „Csibi”, 1934) Muz. Brodszky- Sł. Włast, Muza 1964 (Polish; 33 1/3 rpm vinyl recording) NOTE: Here is one more Polish rendition of immortal European tune from 1934 “Kleine entzückende Frau” (Polish title: “Mała kobietko, czy wiesz…?” In English: Do You Know, Little Nice Woman?). Presented by Austrian actress Franziska Gaal in a film comedy “Csibi” (1934) the song became immensely popular in Europe and is still occasionally performed today. Several days ago I uploaded in YT in the Polish version recorded in 1934 by Mieczysław Fogg. Today, the same song is sung by one of my favorite Polish postwar comedy actresses Alina Janowska (b. 1923- d. in Warsaw in 2014). Recording is dated 1964. Born in 1924 to a Polish landowners’ family, Alina Janowska during the 2 World War joined Polish Underground Army (Armia Krajowa) where as a simple soldier in age of 20 y.o. she fought against German occupation of Poland until collapse of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. Kind, intelligent, always ready to smile and make jokes, she was through all her life a personification of a classy straight and rational woman with a perfect sense of humor. Also the comic female characters she performed with great talent on stage, have always been saturated with delicate colors of her lyricism and smile. As a singer, Alina Janowska was not very prolific. Noted are four recordings she cut in early 1960s, when she recorded several great interwar hits, including “Mała Kobietko…”. The song lyrics are about misguided “modern women” who trust the mirror, while they are lied to and their unnatural faces covered every day with tons of make up, are not beautiful at all. Also in this song, Alina Janowska enriches her interp[retation with gems of her intelligence, warmth and discreet irony. A bonus value is accompaniment by Jerzy Abratrowski’s Ensamble – playing very much in style of prewar Warsaw night clubs.
