Gutshaus Tützpatz - Der Begleitfilm zum Podcast

Until 1776, the Tützpatz estate was owned by the von Maltzahn family, who left their mark on this part of Mecklenburg for centuries. Several epitaphs in the church in Tützpatz still bear witness to this era. The manor house, as we know it today, was built in 1778 – under the new lord of the manor, Karl Friedrich von Linden. It was at this time that it acquired its Baroque appearance with the high mansard roof. A few years later, the estate passed by inheritance to the von Heyden family, who henceforth also called themselves von Heyden-Linden. Their family resided there until 1945. A devastating event for the house occurred with the fire of 1908, which caused considerable damage. Apparently, however, the architecture was already considered so outstanding at that time that Albrecht von Heyden-Linden had it rebuilt in almost identical form. Baroque architecture was quite fashionable during the Wilhelmine era and for a few years after the turn of the century. The reconstruction of the burned-out building is therefore not surprising. Besides the central projections and the segmental pediments crowning them, the dormer windows are particularly striking: While their sloping fronts already make them appear quite peculiar from the outside, this impression is further enhanced from the inside. The projecting dormer roof gives one the feeling of traveling in a zeppelin and looking down at the earth. Since 2020, the von Maltzahn family has once again resided in Tützpatz – thus completing the circle. But the story of Tützpatz is by no means over. On the contrary, a new chapter in its history is being written, as Tützpatz is currently undergoing its second major reconstruction after the fire of 1908 and the subsequent decline after 1990. Tützpatz has now been classified as a monument of national importance. In the podcast, Helmuth von Maltzahn, recipient of the Monument Preservation Prize, recounts his many years of experience, his perseverance, his emotions, and, of course, his plans to make the house a focal point for the town once again. The Forum for Sustainable Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Energy, and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival play a central role in this endeavor. While the structural changes are currently most evident inside the house, nature has reclaimed the original landscape park with its pond, islands, canals, and contoured terrain. The magnificent silhouette of the building is now visible again from the west. Seeing this is a great joy.
