#artdeco #avant-garde #arthistory Art Deco was repudiated and expelled from the great historical avant-garde movements for being a luxurious consumer art fascinated by excessive objects, anachronistic, ultra-commercial and consumerist, highly decorative and useless, not radically new, and lacking a political agenda or social commitment. Pure avant-garde art felt uncomfortable with Art Deco's project of synthesis and fusion, which created absolutely hedonistic and frivolous mass-produced objects.
