The hero of our today's episode, like the doctors at the European Radiology Center, dedicated his life to radiology. At that time, doctors didn't yet fully understand the dangers of X-ray radiation on the human body. They performed all their examinations on themselves and their family members without any protection. He was the first in the world to use X-rays to study the signs of appendicitis and its complications, described the vermiform appendix in normal and inflamed conditions, and designed a special table for examining the kidneys and urinary tract. He also introduced multi-axial imaging, which is now widely used in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging for constructing multiplanar reconstructions. This radiologist bequeathed his body to science "as a rare specimen for the study of changes after prolonged exposure to X-rays." He lived, studied, and worked in Kharkiv, but his name is immortalized on a memorial plaque in Hamburg among the names of other great radiologists.
