Warum der Ozean diesen Tauchkörper nicht zerquetscht
How does a bathyscaphe withstand 1,100 bar of water pressure? A bathyscaphe must withstand an external pressure of approximately 1,100 bar at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. On January 23, 1960, the Trieste, with Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh on board, reached a depth of about 10,900 meters. The vessel consisted of a narrow, thick-walled steel sphere beneath a long tank containing approximately 85 cubic meters of gasoline. The entire hull did not have to withstand the immense pressure. The crucial design principle was to make only the crew sphere pressure-resistant, allowing the pressure to pass through all other areas. ... This video explains: • why water pressure increases by approximately one bar every 10 meters, reaching around 1,100 bar in the Challenger Deep • why a sphere distributes external loads more evenly than a cylinder or a hull with flat surfaces • how a steel sphere approximately 12.5 centimeters thick could protect two people at normal atmospheric pressure • why the Trieste's buoyancy chamber was filled with gasoline and allowed free flow of seawater • how nine tons of iron shot served as ballast and were automatically jettisoned in the event of a power failure • why the fish allegedly observed on the seabed in 1960 was likely an invertebrate • how syntactic foam and a 90-millimeter-thick titanium sphere enable repeated dives to the full ocean depths • which design, testing, and safety flaws, according to the US Coast Guard, contributed to the Titan's implosion A bathyscaphe doesn't survive the deep sea by resisting pressure everywhere, but rather by presenting itself with the most perfect sphere possible.
