Join this channel to get early access to new videos a week ahead of their public release:    / @rorymacve   Good day! :D Comprising the Class 313, 314, 315, 507 and 508, the British Rail 1972 EMU design, also known as the PEP units, were once a mainstay of Britain's commuter networks, with their domain stretching from London and the south coast to Glasgow and Liverpool, these versatile machines being perfect for both the overhead and third-rail electric systems of the UK railways. It was this versatility that led to longevity, and it wouldn't be until November 2024 that the last of the PEP units were retired from active duty after a career spanning 48 years from the first introduction of the Class 313s way back in 1976, making them the oldest multiple units at work on the UK mainline network beyond the Island Line and the London Underground.
