Then, use the software to trace around the design. Once that is done, resize the design and delete the parts you won’t be using. Feed the vinyl into the machine with the vinyl facing up and set up the machine settings. Go over to the software, do an area test and click “Cut Now.” Once the machine has finished cutting, weed out the excess vinyl with the picker tool. Next, you want to repeat the same steps for the second vinyl design. Except this time, the second vinyl sheet needs to be cut from the bottom, so it needs to be fed into the machine upside down. Also, the design needs to be mirrored in the software. Once you have cut and weeded the second vinyl sheet, you need to transfer the designs on to the transfer sheet. Separate the transfer sheet so you just have the transparent paper. Place the vinyl designs face down on to the transparent paper, making sure to push out any air bubbles. Then peel away the excess part of the vinyl so there are only the colored vinyl designs left. The next step is to put the shirt into the heat press, place a Teflon sheet on top and press for 10 seconds at 270 F to get rid of wrinkles and excess moisture. When the heat press opens, place the vinyl design onto the shirt and a Teflon sheet on top. Then press the vinyl for 10 seconds at 270 F. As soon at the heat press opens, peel the transparent sheet off the shirt. This should leave just the vinyl design on the shirt. You have now created your own custom t-shirt using vinyl! The possibilities are endless when using heat transfer vinyl to decorate apparel and other items. So, if you want more vinyl tutorials like these, make sure to leave a comment below!
