Explained: Tire Axis System
In this video, I will explain how to define the tire axis system, along with definitions for the forces and moments acting on a tire (or tyre) in this coordinate system. After the definitions, I'll go through a little example of why it's important to understand sign convention when talking about how tires generate their forces and moments. The example goes through the relationship between lateral force (cornering force) and slip angle (which are topics for a few other videos that I'm currently making). ===== WHAT TO WATCH NEXT ===== → Tire Slip Angle https://goo.gl/9hyb9T ===== THUMBNAIL IMAGE ===== The picture in the thumbnail is someone's rendering of my SolidWorks model of a tire and wheel (from GrabCad). I picked this particular rendering (and not mine) because it was an isometric view so I could add the axes, and because I didn't feel like doing another rendering.
